Submissions closed
Submissions are now closed for new abstracts. However, the submission instructions remain available below to assist authors with the revision process following peer review. For any resubmission or formatting queries, please email info@isbs2026.com.
Submission details
For the first time, each accepted ISBS abstract will be individually published in a Supplementary Issue of the Sports Biomechanics journal.
Whilst the submission and review process will occur within the journal’s online system, this move to publish within the journal has been facilitated by some updates to the abstract formatting guidelines, so it is essential that you read the instructions below before preparing a submission. If you have any queries, please contact info@isbs2026.com
A single author can submit and/or present multiple abstracts. It is possible for an author who isn’t the first author to present, but the person presenting should be a listed author (and at least one author must eventually register for the conference).
Abstract template
Please download the ISBS 2026 abstract template document from the link below and use that document when preparing your submission. Pay close attention to the formatting requirements/limits outlined below.
Note that there is no page limit on the submitted abstract document (it will undergo additional editing and formatting by the publishers prior to publication within the journal) but the requirements below must be met.
Formatting
The formatting of the abstract should adhere to the example within the abstract template document (linked above). Authors are additionally required to ensure that their abstract meets the requirements listed below.
- maximum of 600 words inclusive of references, and table and figure captions (title, author details, and keywords are not included). Within this word limit, there is no page limit as the abstract will undergo additional editing and formatting by the publishers prior to publication within the journal.
- maximum of 2 total figures/tables (e.g., 1 figure and 1 table, 2 figures, or 2 tables), each no more than half a page in size
- maximum of 4 references
- formatted according to the abstract template document (linked above)
- Sections titled Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion and Conclusion, and References. There should be no separate ‘abstract’ section before the introduction.
- Prepare a second, ‘blind’, copy of the abstract with author details and any identifying information removed. Both versions will be submitted through the online portal, but the blind version will be used for peer review.
FAQ (Subsequent journal publication of expanded work): The accepted 600-word abstracts will be published as ‘conference abstracts’ within the Sports Biomechanics journal. Following pre-publication formatting by the publishers, the abstracts are expected to be approximately 2 pages in length. We do not anticipate any issues if authors wish to submit expanded versions of their work for publication in a journal after the conference, similarly to 1- or 2-page abstracts for other conferences. Taylor and Francis (the Sports Biomechanics publishers) have guaranteed that authors will be able to submit expanded versions to their journals as part of the regular peer review process. Whilst we cannot provide guarantees regarding other publishers, we do not envision any problems. Authors are nonetheless encouraged to ensure that expanded versions differ in title and potentially scope (e.g., an expanded data set or more detailed analysis).
Submission
Please note that this is a two-part process. Once the abstract is submitted online, you must then complete the short ‘post-submission form’ linked towards the bottom of this page to indicate your preference for oral/poster presentation, preferred topic category, and self-nominate for any awards.
Once started, you can stop the electronic submission process any time and resume where you left off. All files can also be deleted or replaced at any time until you finally confirm your submission.
Please follow the instructions below carefully, in particular when selecting the conference special issue to submit to. Several authors have faced issues at the submission stage due to skipping part of the below process.
- You will need to submit your abstract through the Taylor & Francis (Sports Biomechanics) submission site, linked above. Please note that the publishers are still preparing the conference-specific submission option and so this may not be available until a few weeks after the call for papers.
- If you have not been a Sports Biomechanics author or reviewer before, you will have to create a new account.
- Once you have a User ID and Password, you may login log in and ensure you are in the Author section of the portal.
- Click the button ‘Submit New Manuscript’. This will take you to the Submission Creation Page. From here, if the journal Sports Biomechanics does not auto-populate in the ‘Submit to’ line, then search and select it.
- Click the check boxes indicating that you have read the author guidelines and are submitting original material, and confirm whether you are named as an author/contributor to the article you are submitting. Read and agree to the terms of publication from Taylor and Francis.
- Under Article Type, select ‘Conference Abstract’, then click the Start button (If the Start button is greyed out, then double check that you have clicked or completed all of the required fields).
- Enter the title of the abstract under Manuscript Title. As the ‘Abstract’ section is a required field within the submission system (for full journal articles) but your conference abstract should not contain a separate abstract section, please re-enter your Manuscript Title within the Abstract section of the system.
- Select YES, that you are submitting to a specific special issue. This will open up a drop-down menu, with which you should select ’44th International Society of Biomechanics in Sports Conference, Loughborough University, UK’.
- Indicate whether data will be available for the submission, and confirm you have read and understood the publisher copyright and author rights.
- Upload your document files. This should include both your abstract and an anonymous version of your abstract (with author details and identifying information removed to facilitate anonymous peer review).
- Please indicate clearly which file is which, ideally through the files names but also by selecting ‘Manuscript – with author details’ and ‘Manuscript – anonymous’ within the submission system.
- Upload any figure or table files that you wish to upload separately and label them accordingly within the drop down (e.g., Figure, Table – you may have to select ‘Show All’ to see all options).
- Click the check boxes for the Ethics Declaration for the study, acknowledging the Generative AI policy, indicating whether the study includes human participants, etc. then click the check boxes for Consent to Publish, Acknowledgements and indicate Permissions for the abstract.
- Enter the manuscript word count and any author social media handles you wish to be associated with the submission, then click NEXT once completed (If the Next button is greyed out, then double check that you have clicked or completed all the required fields).
- Be prepared to provide keywords when prompted for these. They will be published with the abstract and are critically important to the proper indexing and search engine optimisation of your contribution. Add in Keywords for your submission (you need to enter 5 keywords), as well as select Classifications for the abstract. Click NEXT.
- Provide information for authors and co-authors. Pay careful attention to these entries, because they will define the order of authors and affiliations in the published abstract. Provide any funding information for the authors, as well as completing the Competing Interests statement. Click NEXT.
- Finally, you will need to preview both of your assembled documents (anonymous and with author details included) before submitting.
- Once the abstract has been submitted, you must then complete the short ‘post-submission form’ linked below to indicate your preference for oral/poster presentation, preferred topic category, and self-nominate for any awards. If you have any difficulties in accessing this form, please contact info@isbs2026.com.
